As a lover of romance novels, I have always loved small towns. They are charming, peaceful and yet there is so much to explore.

Located in north Houston, the Woodlands is a small town which will make you think you have become a part of a book set in a small town with its beautiful landscape, mountains, forests, museums, art galleries, and great opportunities for outdoor recreational activities. Once you reach here, you will have a great time in this little town and make memories for life.

01. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

Watching a show at the Pavilion is such a memorable experience, you will find yourself coming back to it again and again. With the seating capacity of 165,000 people, it is a world class concert amphitheatre which has had celebrities like Jimmy Buffett, Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, Pitbull, and the Jonas Brothers perform on its stage.

It also holds performances like operas, musicals, symphonies and ballets that you cannot miss any cost when in town. Enjoy a live show at the pavilion while surrounded by beautiful lawns and trees and let the energy of the crowd work its magic on you.

02. Forest Oasis Water Park

If you want to have fun and get away from the heat, enjoy a chill day at the water park. It remains open all year from 9 am to 9 pm and caters to people of all age and has lots of fun waterslide.

Along with that, there is an underwater scuba diving area, a lazy river, a golf course, splash area for kids and an outdoor heated pool. It is also surrounded by the Woodland Forest where you will see a lot of tall pine trees. This is a great place to escape the heat and stay cool, while also enjoying yourselves.

03. George Mitchell Nature Preserve

Covering over 1800 acres, the natural preserve is a delight for both nature and adventure lovers. It is a beautiful place which abounds in vast flora and fauna, stunning terrain that includes over 5 miles of hiking and biking trails.

You can come here any time of the year between 6.30 am and 8 pm and take a break and spend some time in nature, exploring wildlife, having a picnic or just soaking up the sun.

04. The Woodlands Farmers’ Market

Visiting the Farmers' Market at Grogan's Mill center, which takes place every Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm is the best way to become familiar with the local culture as well as interact with the local farmers and artists who sell their items here.

You can also simply ride your bike or walk here and get everything from fresh vegetables and fruits, flowers, pet supplies, artisan goods to henna tattoos here while enjoying live music and delicious food from the food trucks around the market.

05. Texas Treeventures

Wondering what to do on a weekend in the Woodlands? Go to the recreation center at Rob Fleming Park and have an adventure taking up the zip-line challenge course with Treeventures.

Their challenge includes 3 levels and 72 obstacles which will push your limits with adrenaline rushing in your body. This is a very challenging and adventurous activity which should be a must try for adventure lovers. You can go the center between 1 and 6 pm on Friday, and between 8 am and 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday, and spend a very adventurous and fun weekend.

06. George & Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library

This library is a paradise for readers and book lovers visiting the town with over 100,000 books in their collection, with books for people of all ages, from young to old.

They also have wi-fi and computer services, so if you want to get some work done while on holiday, you can go to the library and work in some peace and quiet. There is also a popular restaurant near the library where you can have some delicious food after you are finished reading or working.

07. The Woodlands Art League

If you want to support local artists, buy or look at the some art, go to the Woodlands Art League where you can admire artworks by various artists, local and regional.

You can also participate in their art workshops and try your hand at oil painting, acrylics or acrylics or participate in events such as Paint Out where all the local artists gather in one place and make art together. The gallery opens from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 4 pm and is a great place to learn more about local art scene and artists.

08. Market Street

Besides adventure and recreation, the Woodlands is also one of the best shopping destinations in the country. The Market Street has over 90 stores and luxury boutiques including brands like Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Chanel Beauty etc., several restaurants, spas, and cinemas.

You can spend a day shopping to your heart's content, pampering yourself with a manicure and pedicure or body massage while gorging on delicious food. End the day with catching a movie at the theater. Market Street opens between 10 am and 8 pm from Monday to Saturday, and between 12 and 6 pm on Sundays.

09. Mossrock Studio & Fine Art Gallery

At this gallery, you will find artworks in various forms by new as well as established artists. Their collection includes paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photographs and even jewellery. You can also admire landscape, impressionistic, contemporary and figurative art.

If you are an art lover, visit the gallery between Tuesday and Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and look around and learn more about the various works displayed.

10. Riva Row Boat House

If you want to enjoy a sunny day out in the lake, go to the Riva Boat House located inside the Riva Row Park. Here, you can enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing or boating in the lake or just lay in the park with a book and have a picnic while surrounded by a beautiful view of the lake.

The boat house opens from Thursday to Monday between 9 am and 6 pm and is a very popular and enjoyable spot among tourists and locals.

11. Lakeside Park

This park is located on Lake Marble Falls and make for a stunning place to spend a day near the lake. There is a swimming pool, picnic areas, barbecue pits, a tennis court, and a boat ramp in the park where you can spend time in the water swimming or boating, or simply relaxing under the sun and having a picnic or barbecue with friends or family.

The park remains open all year between 6 am and 12 am and is also a great place if you want to witness a beautiful sunset or sunrise over the lake.

12. Char Dham Hindu Temple

This is a very sacred and unique temple with a unique story behind it. Built by a man whose wife wished to visit a temple in India but couldn’t due to a stroke, the temple is inspired by the Char Dham Temples which are located at four corners of India.

Here, you will find all the four temples in one place, with stunning architecture, picturesque and very peaceful surroundings. The temples is open from Monday to Friday between 7.30 and 9.30 am and 6 and 9 pm and you can spend your time offering prayers, meditating and strolling around the beautiful grounds.

13. The Ice Rink

If you are looking for something fun to do with your kids, the Ice Rink is a great place to have fun. Spreading over 21,000 sq. ft., it is located at the Woodlands Town Center and open for people of all ages and experience levels.

If you are a beginner and want to try something new, you can take classes here with a professional. The rink opens on a seasonal basis, so make sure to check the dates and timings beforehand.
